Juan, Microsoft Security Essentials is based on Windows Defender. But have few improvements.
I still thought "Windows Defender" was the same as "Microsoft Security Essentials", right?
The best free anti-spyware
Good free software that keeps spyware at bay.
It has the same malware database as Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) does, this is why when you install MSE, Windows Defender is deactivated. It's an OK scanner, gives "realtime" protection against spyware/malware. Ships with Windows 7 (and possibly Vista?). It's best on XP, when combined with one of the free AV's, such as Avast.
Also, one last point to note, it's a PITA, always asking your permission (as though as adults we need it?) to allow changes to be made. And it's a RAM hog.
Three stars out of Five.

Free and did tackle some malware. So I'm happy with it.
Good, considering that it's free. Interface leaves a lot to be desired though.
Good~
Good.
love it!
nice
I've never saw it alerting me about anything at all! I don't count on it and always trust the AV spyware more than Windows Defender, but hey it's free and comes with the system, better than nothing :)
