The 5th most popular launcher on Mac OS X

Quicksilver is a unified, extensible interface for working with applications, contacts, music, and other data.

Anyone using a computer (and the Macintosh is no exception) spends a lot of time locating files and applications, and then carrying out actions on those items. The Finder is a reasonably good tool for getting a visual overview of the contents of your disk, but it isn't ideal for quickly locating and manipulating files, especially if you have a deep and complicated folder structure, or if you prefer keyboard navigation to using the mouse.

Very usefull, especially on old Macs, where going into Finder or Spotlight to find something takes a lot of effort. Quicksilver really helps to speed up basic things: start/quit applications, make a calculation, go to a webadres, search the web, search and open files on your computer, execute a applescript... those kind of things. If you get used to using quicksilver you don't even need the Dock anymore.

An excellent and quick way to open and close applications. It also does a lot more once you've taken the time to experiment with additional features.

The essential application for the Mac.
A Mac doesn't feel "mine" until I've installed Quicksilver and tweaked it to my likes.

Launching, browsing, calculating, even quick e-mailing... It's not just a launcher: it's a keyboard nirvana!
    Can't live without it.

This is truly an app that makes your life on the Mac so much easier.

    And it's free!

Quicksilver's a bit of a learning curve for those new to it. It was one of the apps I installed almost immediately after switching from a PC to a Mac some years ago. I merely used it to launch applications for many months after, simply because I could not figure out the more "advanced" uses for it, or, more accurately, didn't bother to because I had so much on my plate then. I remained unimpressed until I finally sat myself down to figure the app out.

Today, Quicksilver is so indispensable to me that I can't imagine how I had operated on the mac before without it. It's a true swiss-army knife for the mac, only better because it's so customisable. I use it to do so much.
