… More EditMetapad is a small, fast (and completely free) text editor for Windows 9x/NT/XP with similar features to Microsoft Notepad but with many extra (and rather useful) features. It was designed to completely replace Notepad since it includes all of Notepad's features and much, much more.
Although other notepad types are out there, like notepad++, I feel that metapad is the best REPLACEMENT for notepad, where as notepad++ is more for new features.

Free, lightweight and useful. Simply delicious.
Like Transparent Notepad, Metapad has transparency mode, which you can adjust for opaqueness. It is really lightweight and quick. A good thumb drive word processor, or for ready writing.
