The 22nd most popular adventure/RPG game on Mac OS X

City of Heroes (CoH) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing computer game based on the superhero comic book genre, originally developed by Cryptic Studios and published by NCsoft. The game was launched in North America on April 28, 2004 and in Europe (by NCsoft Europe) on 4 February 2005 with English, German and French language servers. A Korean open beta of City of Heroes, entitled City of Hero (시티 오브 히어로), was launched on January 18, 2006. On October 31, 2005 the game's first sequel, City of Villains, was launched, allowing users to play as supervillains. Since then, City of Villains has been merged into City of Heroes completely, making it only one game again. Also the developer has changed to Paragon Studios. Fourteen free major updates (Issues) for City of Heroes have been released since its launch, with more on the way for both heroes and villains, with the latest Issue, Issue 14, being released in February 2009.

In the game, players create superhero/supervillain player characters that can team up with others to complete missions and fight villains/heroes belonging to various gangs and organizations in Paragon City/Rogue Isles and its surrounding areas.

City of Heroes and its companion City of Villians is the most fun I've ever had playing MMORGs.

I still play this game, though I admit that after a while, it would get repetitive, or even boring-- if you Roleplay it adds a lot more to the game and kind of helps to alleviate the boredom that can come from repetitive actions. I've been playing since the end of 2006, so that's a plus.

This is a pretty fun game. Cancelled cause it got slightly repetitive and well, I just didn't have the time. I may go back though... however, not if DC Universe Online kicks ass on PS3! Thing I loved about this is there is actually a MAC version! Talk about rare, a good game on a mac that is not made from Blizzard or the Sims? Wowsers.

I dip into this MMO every six months or so, because it's always being updated with something new. The level of character customization is excellent - certainly the best appearance editor I've seen in an RPG. The other players are always friendly and there's none of this "Buy WoW GOLD!!!" rubbish.

Great MMO. It differs a lot from other MMOs in that it's very casual friendly. There isn't a lot of loot you need to collect. Some rare enhancements have been added, but no one will notice if you have them or not. It's easy to get on and play for just 30 minutes. Teams are flexible and almost any combination is workable. And best of all it's fun! The characters are a blast to play, combat is fast. Different teams handle situations differently. Each powerset allows a different playstyle from the very beginning. I'm not sure why some people don't like subscription games. For $12 a month or so, it's very cheap, even if you just play it occasionally. Recently the team has grown to be 5x as large. A lot of great stuff released recently, and a lot more coming!

I love the trial, though I personally hate subscription-based games (you never get to keep the game after all), so most probably I'm not going to play it after the trial is over.

Simply one of the best MMOs I've played. Any game that you can spend hours just designing a costume, you know, just to get the look "just right" has got to be good. CoH also does something that most other MMOs have failed in...it makes simply getting around fun again. Truly, get Super Jump or Super Speed and tell me you don't grin at least once. Or Teleport to see just how "surgical" you can get with the destination...veterans understand what I mean.

    Try it out...

A great game. Been playing it for years and I haven't lost hope in it yet.

The developers are constantly updating with new "Issues" containing missions, costume pieces and more!
