The 8th most popular financial tool on Linux
Bitcoin is a decentralized P2P electronic cash system without a central server or trusted parties. Users hold the crypto keys to their own money and transact directly with each other, with the help of the network to check for double-spending.

I have about 50,000 so far with a 0 Balance. I don’t exactly get the payout rate but I believe it depends on how many people are actually generating the BitCoins and the need supply. I believe this supply is predetermined or determined by an algorithm.
The computation work your computer does I believe is to actually generate the money. You get rewarded for generating the money. Mining seems to be only for those really serious and those that put an investment in for generating the coins. The way a casual user obtains BitCoins seems to currently be limited to bartering and exchanging money for bitcoins on third-party sites.
Seems legit but brought my computer to a crawl the other day until I killed it. I imagine there will be some discussion whether this is legal in US.
I have a sinking suspicion this is actually a botnet. It is constantly listening to an oddly-named IRC channel and after completing over 20,000 "blocks" I have yet to see a single coin in my account.
